About UK Atomic Energy Authority

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is the UK's national fusion research organisation, focused on developing fusion energy as a sustainable, low-carbon energy source. It is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), and operates national fusion facilities including the MAST Upgrade spherical tokamak and the Joint European Torus (JET). It has established a subsidiary, UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKFE) Ltd, to lead delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant.
