About the Role

As Engineering & Facilities Manager at our Wakefield Processing Centre, you will be the driving force behind the smooth running of all mechanical, electrical, and building infrastructure across the site. You'll lead a multi-skilled engineering and facilities function, ensuring equipment, environment, and people are set up for success every day. You'll act as the site's technical authority, balancing hands-on operational leadership with strategic planning, continuous improvement, and strong stakeholder engagement.

The Wakefield Processing Centre is one of the largest and most dynamic sites in the TJX Europe network, spanning 1.2 million square feet and operating at the heart of our supply chain. This role is for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, brings deep technical expertise, and knows how to lead large teams while influencing senior stakeholders across a complex operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Facilities & Maintenance — Oversee all engineering, maintenance, and facilities activity, including contractor management and technical oversight of building improvements and repairs.
  • Ensure Compliance & Safety — Maintain full compliance with legislation, regulations, and TJX policies, ensuring the highest safety standards for colleagues and contractors.
  • Maximise Site Performance — Drive availability, productivity, and performance across all plant, machinery, and equipment.
  • Lead Multi-Skilled Teams — Manage engineering and procurement teams, including recruitment, development, performance management, and workload prioritisation.
  • Develop Talent — Provide coaching, training, and guidance to ensure the team is motivated, skilled, and compliant with H&S standards.
  • Manage Third Party Providers — Oversee SLAs and relationships with cleaning, catering, and travel service providers.
  • Control Risk & Compliance — Ensure risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work are in place for people, equipment, property, and environment.
  • Own Planned Preventative Maintenance — Maintain an effective PPM schedule aligned with manufacturer guidance and statutory requirements.
  • Conduct Inspections & Testing — Ensure all inspections meet company policies and insurer requirements.
  • Drive Cost Efficiency — Identify opportunities for cost savings, including energy optimisation.
  • Manage Budgets & CapEx — Oversee site maintenance budgets, spend analysis, invoicing, and annual CapEx planning and delivery.
  • Lead Supplier Relationships — Build strong supplier partnerships, negotiate contracts, and ensure safe, cost-effective delivery of maintenance and repairs.
  • Champion Continuous Improvement — Drive efficiency, innovation, and operational excellence across the site.
  • Maintain High Housekeeping Standards — Ensure all areas meet TJX housekeeping expectations and support colleagues in maintaining them.
  • Protect Warranty & Compliance — Ensure training and procedures align with warranty and contractual requirements.

Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Engineering qualification (Mechanical or Electrical) with experience in a similar large-scale environment.
  • Strong leadership experience managing multi-skilled technical teams.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, PLCs, and large-scale industrial systems.
  • Ability to interpret site plans, layouts, and contribute to site development.
  • Strong understanding of HS&E legislation and Codes of Practice.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • IT literate with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
